The itinerary that leads to the discovery of Piero della Francesca's Arezzo works starts in Arezzo and continues on to Monterchi, his mother's home village, to end in Sansepolcro, where the artist was born.

At Arezzo one can admire the Legend of the True Cross frescoes in the Main Chapel inside the Gothic St. Francis Basilica. In the Cathedral, also Gothic, a fresco depicting Mary Magdalene can also be seen.
