Precious Metals in the History of Science and Technology
Monday 7th at OROAREZZO 2018, a study day with experts, researchers and university teachers

As part of the full programme of events at OROAREZZO, on 7th May, the Arezzo Exhibition Centre Auditorium will be holding a seminar entitled “Precious Metals in the History of Science and Technology” organized by TCA | Precious Metals Refining.
Gold art and precious metal retrieval will be the central themes of the all-day seminar whose interventions will be held by university teachers, researchers and authoritative figures from industry and the artisan sector.
In the morning, the event will provide an important learning opportunity and debate for sector experts and non-experts, with scientific contributions ranging from the description of ancient jewellery processing to those of very modern application. The afternoon, however, will be dedicated to discussing some aspects of precious metal retrieval and refining, both from primary origin sources (mines) and secondary ones , as in the case of waste from jewellery company processing.
In particular, themes will include transmitting ancient gold-processing techniques, the innovative characterization of precious metal alloys for the galvanic and jewellery industries, the perfection of metals in alchemy between the Middle Ages and the Modern Era.
There will also be talks on the ancient goldsmith instruments in the Garuti Collection, the monetary system and ‘bitcoins’, primary gold deposits and their significance within the circular economy, the historical production of gold in Italy with the Cisalpine Gaul case, the evolution of gold retrieval and refining techniques and “Hi-Tech” waste, precious metal urban mines and new sustainable retrieval methods.
